When composing for ‘Polder’, Guus Bakker was inspired by the style of musicians such as Dave Holland, Avishai Cohen and Scott Colley and their bold grooves with surprising turns, dynamics and changes of metre, horn sections combined with shredding guitars, solemn ballads, with a nod to 'classic swing'.
“The European jazz scene is livelier, more diverse and more creative than ever. Bassist/composer Guus Bakker is a perfect example of this phenomenon. Polder is a remarkable manifestation of the musical mind that is Guus Bakker”, says jazz pianist/composer Frank Carlberg.
