Oene van Geel

Violist/composer Oene van Geel is a true adventurer in music. Influenced by jazz, chamber music, Indian music and free improvisation, he has applied his virtuoso improvisation skills and his composition talents to a wide scope of musical activities. He toured in Europe, India, Japan, the USA and Canada.
Oene is active with: Zapp4, Estafest, The Nordanians and the duo Mark Haanstra & Oene van Geel. Besides this Oene is regularly invited as an improvising guest soloist. He is a composer for many ensembles and soloists. Oene has won several awards during his career, the Boy Edgar Award (2013) and Dutch Jazz Competition (2001) being only two of them.

‘Sudoku’ is Oene’s first soloalbum. His goal was to give each piece its own identity: complementary grooves, oriental melodies, Math Metal, desolate soundscapes, expressionism.
