Zapp4 (est. 1997) is a band with the line-up of a string quartet. It combines groove, improvisation and fantasy with passionate solos. “Zapp4 is a beautiful example of the typical Dutch tradition of non-categorized music between composed and improvised music, jazz and pop”, states newspaper NRC.
On stage the group is a blast, interacting with high speed and having a wide musical spectrum. No matter how wild or mild they get, there is always a poetic side to their music.
They toured Canada 3 times, played at the Rochester Jazzfestival (US) and gave concerts in Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Germany, Hungary, Sicily and Japan. The band released 6 albums.

‘In Bloom’ is their interpretation of the songs of Nirvana, garagerock avant la lettre. In the case of Zapp4 you might call it ‘Chamber Grunge’. “We all where teenagers in the nineties and the music of Nirvana was an important musical influence for us. Growing up and listening to Nirvana gave us the strong impulse to dive into their powerful music.” Hits like Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are and Lithium are part of the quartets DNA and rearranged for groovy, punky strings.
