“Inner Visions is an Album about a Journey that I have taken. One of my biggest inspirations in music was the opportunity to perform with the late Rashied Ali. Rashied, who was not only my mentor but also my good friend and like family. This album is definitely a dedication to him and all my heroes.
The opening track Mr. Ali is like an opening prayer. The beginning of the Journey. Blew is a dedication to John Coltrane. A hint of his composition India. Coltrane, by far is one of the most influential musicians and composers I love. I believe I was able to get something from Coltrane thru Rashied Ali.
Judgment Day is the continued journey. I first played and recorded this composition with Rashied. The strong theme always reminded me of a judgment, the uncertainty.
Freedom is what Rashied talked about with music. He admired how Coltrane, Miles, Bird played freely over the music no matter what tune it was or how difficult it was.”
